Illegal dumping continues unabated at Kashti in Chandimall, with yet another incident of hazardous waste catching fire at the same location, raising alarm over public safety and environmental risks.
According to officials, poisonous garbage that had been illegally dumped at the site caught fire, prompting the Curchorem Fire Brigade to rush to the spot. Firefighters acted swiftly and successfully brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading further.
Residents pointed out that this is not an isolated incident. A similar fire had broken out at the same location last year after hazardous waste was illegally dumped and ignited, highlighting a recurring and unresolved problem.
Despite repeated incidents and growing concerns, illegal dumping in the area continues, posing serious threats to the environment and the health of nearby residents. Locals have urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible and to implement effective monitoring measures to prevent Chandimall from becoming a permanent dumping ground for hazardous waste.
