Captain Sumit Kapoor, one of the five people killed in the plane crash that claimed the life of Ajit Pawar in Baramati, had stepped in as a last-minute replacement, according to his friends. Kapoor was not scheduled to fly but took over after another pilot was delayed in traffic. Friends said he had returned from Hong Kong just days earlier and received instructions to operate the Learjet 45 only hours before departure. The aircraft, operated by Delhi-based VSR Ventures, took off from Mumbai around 8 am and crashed during a second landing attempt at Baramati airport amid poor visibility. While preliminary findings suggest possible pilot misjudgement, Kapoor’s friends insisted he was highly experienced and demanded a thorough investigation.
