Renowned Malayalam and Tamil actor Jayaram has been questioned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the alleged misappropriation of gold from artefacts at the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, officials said on Friday. The SIT recorded his statement at his Chennai residence following reports of a religious ritual held at his home, during which copper plates with gold adornments were used. Investigators sought details about Jayaram’s association with Unnikrishnan Potty, the prime accused in the case, and whether the actor participated in similar ceremonies or had any financial dealings with him. The questioning followed the emergence of videos from a 2019 Chennai event allegedly organised using temple artefacts meant for gold plating.
