South Goa Police have intensified their fight against the drug menace by busting multiple NDPS cases in Canacona and seizing narcotics worth over ₹10 lakh in a series of targeted operations.
In one case, Canacona Police arrested a 29-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Palolem, after he was caught near a mosque at Colomb on January 19 with 431 grams of charas worth ₹4.31 lakh. The accused was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was initially remanded to police custody and later sent to judicial custody at Central Jail, Colvale.

In another operation on January 23, police arrested a 28-year-old man, a native of Kerala residing at Agonda, for illegal possession of MDMA. The accused was apprehended near Charasthand on the road leading to Powerhouse, Canacona, with 13.5 grams of MDMA worth ₹1.35 lakh. He was also booked under the NDPS Act, remanded to police custody, and subsequently sent to judicial custody at Central Jail, Colvale.
Meanwhile, in a major crackdown, Canacona Police busted yet another NDPS case and seized drugs worth ₹5.25 lakh, including MDMA, charas and cocaine. The prime accused, a 49-year-old resident of Canacona originally from Kerala, was caught near the Canacona football ground with 24.4 grams of MDMA, 111.2 grams of charas and 3.4 grams of cocaine, allegedly meant for sale.
During further investigation, a second accused, a 32-year-old resident of Agonda, was arrested for allegedly procuring drugs from the prime accused. Both have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and remanded to police custody.
All the raids were conducted under the supervision of senior police officers. Police said investigations are ongoing to trace the wider network involved in the drug trade.
