The Opposition has submitted a no-confidence notice against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly been denied opportunities to speak in the House. The notice also points to frequent disruptions, suspension of Opposition members, and what leaders described as “selective action” by the Chair. Opposition MPs further questioned the absence of action against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over remarks concerning women parliamentarians.
At the same time, BJP women MPs have demanded action against certain Opposition members over an alleged February 4 incident in which they reportedly surrounded the Prime Minister’s Chair. Another member praised the Prime Minister for handling the tense situation with patience, saying his intervention helped prevent the matter from escalating.
