Vijai Sardesai Targets Mauvin Godinho Over Dabolim Airport Row, Calls for Resignation

Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday strongly criticised Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho over the ongoing controversy surrounding Dabolim Airport, accusing him of failing to safeguard the interests of his constituency and demanding his resignation.

Reacting to Godinho’s allegation that private firm GMR wants to “kill” Dabolim Airport and is pressurising the Centre, Sardesai said it was shameful to suggest that a private company could dictate terms to the government.

“Isn’t it shameful to claim that a private firm like GMR is pressurising you? It is not GMR, but the Union Defence Minister who is pushing the state to shut down Dabolim. Mauvin Godinho has failed to protect Dabolim Airport and should resign as the MLA of Dabolim,” Sardesai said.

The GFP chief alleged that the state government has not taken a firm stand to ensure the continued operation and protection of Dabolim Airport, which he said remains vital for South Goa and the state’s aviation needs.

The remarks come amid renewed political sparring over the future of Dabolim Airport and the role of various stakeholders in shaping Goa’s aviation policy.
