Tension is brewing in the coastal village of Aram bol, with residents alleging that illegal activities, including prostitution, are being openly carried out at Arambol beach and surrounding areas. Draw ing parallels with the recent incident in Colva, where locals stormed a police station over law-and-order concerns, villag ers have now issued an eight day ultimatum to authorities demanding decisive action. In a detailed complaint ad dressed to the Police Inspector of Mandrem Police Station, vil lagers have urged immediate intervention to curb alleged prostitution activities said to be taking place every night after 8 pm within the jurisdiction of Arambol beach. The representa tion, signed by several local res idents, has also been marked to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pernem, Super intendent of Police (North Goa), the local MLA’s office, and the village panchayat of Arambol. According to the complaint, residents have expressed se rious concern over what they describe as organised activities allegedly facilitated through on line platforms. They have spe cifically pointed to a website ti tled “Arambol Escorts,” claiming that it openly advertises escort services and attracts tourists for such purposes. The villagers allege that the situation has adversely affect ed the image of the village, dis turbed local residents, and cre ated inconvenience for genuine tourists visiting the beach. “Our beach is known for its natural beauty and peaceful environ ment. Such activities are dam aging the reputation of Arambol and creating law and order con cerns,” a local resident stated. Villagers claim this is not the first time the issue has been raised. A speaker represent ing the residents said that on December 31, 2025, a formal application was submitted to senior police officials, includ ing the DIG, DySP, and SP, seek ing action against the alleged illegal activities. However, they allege that despite complaints being sub mitted at the highest levels, no concrete action has been taken so far. They further claimed that Mandrem Police Station ap pears to have received no clear instructions or communication from higher authorities regard ing the complaints, intensifying frustration among residents who say they feel unheard de spite repeated appeals. In their latest representa tion, villagers have demanded increased policing, including deployment of additional per sonnel for night patrolling on Arambol beach, particularly af ter 8 pm. They have specifically sought the presence of women police officers as part of patrol teams to ensure effective moni toring and enforcement. Residents believe that regu lar night patrolling and visible police presence will deter un lawful activities and help re store public confidence. They have also assured the police department of full cooperation in maintaining law and order in the village. In a significant escalation, some Mandrem villagers have levelled allegations against two junior police personnel from the IRBn have been flexing their muscles around. Sources also said that four other jun ior cops and two government servants have been allegedly collecting haftas from mas sage parlours. Some residents alleged that these personnel may be enjoying protection or “blessings” that have enabled them to continue in the same posting. Serious accusations have also been raised by some vil lages regarding alleged misuse of duplicate keys of traditional and rented houses, particularly properties rented to foreigners. Villagers have further alleged possible misuse of duplicate keys and even theft, urging au thorities to investigate the mat ter thoroughly, including scru tiny of online transactions, if any. PI Girendra Naik informed that they have been conducting time to time patrolling in the area to maintain law and order. Frustrated by what they de scribe as inaction, villagers have issued an eight-day dead line to the Goa government and police department to take strict and visible action against the alleged illegal activities. “If the authorities fail to act within eight days, the public will be forced to take matters into their own hands to protect the dignity and safety of our vil lage,” the speaker warned, add ing that in such a situation, the government and police should not hold villagers responsible for any consequences arising from public intervention. Senior police officers on con dition of anonymity alleged that some junior cops and two gov ernment servants from the talu ka are hand in glove with some anti-social elements who run the nefarious trade and stat ed that the department should keep a strict watch on their activities before things go out of hand. “They are politically connected and at times it is dif ficult to initiate action against them,” said a cop on condition of anonymity. It remains to be seen whether authorities will initiate a formal inquiry into the claims, including the alleged on line platforms and accusations involving police personnel.
