In a rare and heart-warming milestone, one of Goa’s oldest resi dents, Pedro Lazaro Leitao, celebrated his 107th birth day at his residence in Var ca on Sunday. Surrounded by relatives and well-wishers, the cen tenarian marked the occa sion by cutting the birthday cake in a simple celebra tion. Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas greeted Leitao and conveyed his wishes. In a statement issued lat er, Viegas said that seniors like Leitao are a living link to Goa’s past and deserve special care and dignity in their advanced years. He urged the Goa gov ernment to provide a home nurse and attendant for Leitao under the Deen Day al Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY). The MLA also appealed that similar assistance be extended to other super senior citizens who re quire support, so they can access proper care with in the comfort of their homes
