Warm hugs and big talks mark Modi–Netanyahu meeting in Israel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a high-profile visit to Israel, marking his second trip since the landmark 2017 tour. During the two-day visit, Modi held wide-ranging talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, focusing on strengthening cooperation in defence, trade, technology and agriculture.

Welcoming the Indian leader at the Knesset, Netanyahu described Modi as “more than a friend,” thanking him for India’s support following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks. Modi had been among the first global leaders to condemn the assault, which killed around 1,200 Israelis and saw about 250 people taken hostage.

The visit is expected to further cement the India–Israel strategic relationship and explore cooperation under initiatives such as IMEC and I2U2, even as the trip has sparked some political criticism back home.
