Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, on Monday clarified in the Goa Legislative Assembly that he never referred to the four individuals involved in a recent incident as terrorists. His statement came amid controversy and criticism over remarks made during a discussion in the Assembly.
Sawant explained that his comments were misunderstood and insisted that he had only said that the four people involved in the incident should be arrested. According to the Chief Minister, his statement was not intended to label anyone as terrorists but was made in the context of maintaining order and protecting the functioning of the Assembly.

Referring to a statement made by Venzy Viegas, Sawant said the MLA had claimed he could bring 1,000 more people into the Assembly premises. Responding to this claim, the Chief Minister said such statements should not encourage what he described as “terrorist tendencies” among individuals.
Sawant emphasised that his remark was directed at discouraging disruptive behaviour rather than targeting any specific group or the people of Goa. He reiterated that his priority was to safeguard democratic processes and ensure that the Assembly functions smoothly without any disturbances or threats to public order.
