Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, on Monday said opposition parties were “rattled” by the state government’s announcement of a monthly financial assistance scheme for women. He claimed that the criticism from rival parties reflected their fear of the Aam Aadmi Party returning to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Speaking in the Punjab Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session, Mann made the remarks while replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address. The Chief Minister said the opposition’s reaction showed that the welfare initiative had struck a chord with the people of the state.

Mann also emphasised that his government had treated its election manifesto as a “sacred commitment.” He said the administration was working consistently to fulfil the promises made to the people during the Assembly elections.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Mann stated that several welfare measures and development programmes had already been implemented for the benefit of the public. He added that the women’s financial assistance scheme was another step aimed at supporting households and strengthening the economic independence of women across Punjab.
