The State Government has deferred the award of contract for towing away off the stranded River Princess till August 17.
The Advocate General Subodh Kantak the High Court on Wednesday that contract will not be awarded till August 17.
The Division Bench of Justices A S Oka and F M Reis was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by River Princess Hatao Manch (RPHM) that highlighted environmental damage caused by the stranded vessel for the last ten years and demanding that it be removed without delaying further.
When the matter came up for hearing, the counsel for RPHM, Adv Nigel Costa told the Court measures undertaken to stop erosion of beach have been ineffective and should adopt the method adopted at Betalbatim beach which has proved more effective in preventing sand erosion. It should be also implemented at Sinquerim beach stretch by way of interim relief, he prayed.
The AG thereafter sought time to seek instructions and make a statement with regards suggestions made by the RPHM. Hearing was then adjourned till August 17.
