History was made at the Cor poration of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Monday as Rohit Monserrate secured his sixth term as Panjim Mayor, with Vasant Agshikar stepping in as Deputy Mayor. Both were elected unopposed follow ing the oath-taking ceremony of new ly-elected councillors. Speaking to reporters after his elec tion, Monserrate said the CCP would not support digging up newly tarred roads for laying Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections He stressed that the roads had been completed after considerable ef fort and should not be disturbed. “Citizens’ comfort is our top priority.

If any work causes inconvenience to the public, we are not in favour of it,” he said, reiterating that the Cor poration would oppose projects that disrupt daily life. Addressing parking concerns in the city, the Mayor said discussions had already been held with officials and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic). “We will not remain silent if citizens face discomfort,” he added. Meanwhile, CCP councillor Uday Madkaikar noted that Monserrate has created a record by being elected Mayor of the CCP for the sixth time.
