With the mon soon fast approaching and fears of further structural damage mounting, repre sentatives of several South Goa Comunidades have pressed for immediate re pairs and renovation of the historic Comunidade Building in Margao dur ing a meeting convened by the Additional Collector-I, South Goa. The meeting, held at the chamber of the Addition al Collector-I, discussed long-pending issues con cerning the renovation of the Comunidade Building and other matters relat ed to the Comunidades of the South Zone.
Repre sentatives from Canacona, Chicolna, Chinchinim, Lou tolim, Margao, Benaulim and Nagoa Comunidades attended the meeting. Officials informed the gathering that the PWD Division VIII (Build ings-South) had already initiated the renovation process and secured ad ministrative approval from the government, while ex penditure sanction from the Finance Department was expected shortly. Au thorities also indicated that the work order was likely to be issued within the next few days. During the discussions, representatives stressed that roof repair works must be taken up on priority be fore the onset of rains to prevent leakages and wa ter seepage from causing further deterioration to the building. The members also re quested better coordina tion between the PWD and Comunidade representa tives during the execution of the renovation work.

They urged authorities to share drawings and work orders to ensure smooth cooperation throughout the project. Concerns were also raised regarding the build ing’s drainage system, with members pointing out that the rooftop gutter arrange ment required proper cov ering and management to ensure rainwater was effectively diverted with out causing internal seep age. The representatives further insisted that no financial burden arising from the repairs should be imposed on the Comuni dades. Another major issue dis cussed was the preserva tion and management of old Comunidade records currently stored in the building. Members pro posed that the documents be properly indexed and shifted to the first-floor premises formerly oc cupied by the Goa State Co-operative Bank. They also recommended digitisa tion of archival records for safer preservation. The representatives ad ditionally expressed con cern over delays in approv al of proposals submitted by attorneys to the Admin istrator of Comunidades and sought quicker deci sion-making at the local level. The Comunidade mem bers also appreciated ef forts taken by Digambar Ka mat, Minister for PWD and MLA of Margao, in pushing forward the long-pending renovation project.
