The political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu appears to be nearing its conclusion after Thol Thirumavalavan announced unconditional support for Vijay and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government in the state.
After days of intense political negotiations and speculation, the support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) helped Vijay comfortably cross the majority mark required to stake claim to form the government. The actor-politician later met Governor R. V. Arlekar with letters of support from 120 MLAs, two more than the required figure of 118.

Explaining the decision, Thirumavalavan said the VCK did not want to become an obstacle to the formation of the government or allow a situation that could lead to President’s Rule in the state.
He also revealed that he had informed M. K. Stalin before extending support to Vijay. According to Thirumavalavan, Stalin respected the party’s decision and conveyed his wishes.
The VCK chief further stated that discussions with the Left parties were held with long-term political considerations in mind. Following consultations within their respective state committees, both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India decided to support TVK’s government formation bid. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also announced support for Vijay.
The TVK-led alliance now includes five Congress MLAs, four Left MLAs, and two legislators each from VCK and IUML. Sources indicate that Vijay is likely to take oath as Chief Minister on Sunday afternoon.
