Vasco Loan Dispute Ends in Court After ₹2.80 Lakh Cheques Bounce

What began as a friendly financial arrangement in Vasco da Gama eventually turned into a courtroom battle after a man failed to repay money borrowed from his friend, leading to a cheque bounce case.

According to court records, the complainant had extended a friendly loan of ₹2.80 lakh to the accused during a period of financial hardship. In an attempt to repay the amount, the accused later issued two cheques worth ₹1.40 lakh each.

However, when the cheques were presented at the bank, both were dishonoured due to insufficient funds in the accused’s account.

Despite being served with a legal notice demanding repayment, the accused allegedly failed to clear the dues, prompting the complainant to approach the court seeking legal remedy.

After hearing the matter, the court found the accused guilty in the cheque bounce case and sentenced him to one month of simple imprisonment. The court also directed the accused to pay compensation amounting to ₹5.20 lakh to the complainant.

The case serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of cheque dishonour and highlights the importance of financial caution, even in personal friendships and informal loan arrangements.
