The beach circle at Velsao Beach, which had suffered damage due to erosion, has been restored and beautified by the Velsao Panchayat under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Paradeep Phosphates Limited.
Local residents and members of the fishing community welcomed the restoration work and expressed gratitude to the company for its support towards village development. They also urged major industries operating in the Cortalim region, including firms in the Verna Industrial Estate, to contribute more actively towards local infrastructure and welfare projects through mandatory CSR funding.
Speaking on the occasion, PPL Unit Head Suresh Pramanik said that Velsao is a neighbouring village to the company and stressed the importance of mutual growth and cooperation between the company and the local community.
He further stated that the company plans to extend support in areas such as health, hygiene, and other community welfare initiatives in the near future.
Diana Gouveia, Sarpanch of Velsao, appealed to industries and companies to continue supporting the village and work closely with the newly elected panchayat body for future development initiatives.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Orville Dourado remarked that the relationship and understanding between Velsao residents and PPL had improved significantly after a Goan recently assumed a top leadership role within the company.
Fishermen leader Olencio Simoes also called upon other companies operating in the region to step forward and contribute towards the development of local villages and fishing communities.
