Protest Erupts Over Electricity Connections During Purumetache Fest in Sanguem

Tensions flared during the Purumetache Fest in Sanguem after gada owners expressed anger over the manner in which electricity connections were provided for the event.

According to the vendors, separate electricity meters were installed for each gada, leading to confusion and dissatisfaction among participants. The gada owners also alleged that the municipality collected ₹1,500 for issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) but failed to provide receipts immediately after collecting the payment.

Following complaints from the affected vendors, former corporator Meshu D’Costa reportedly gheraoed municipality Chief Officer Siddharth Prabhu, demanding clarification and immediate action on the matter.

The incident created a tense atmosphere at the festival venue, with vendors seeking transparency and accountability from the civic authorities regarding the collection of fees and provision of facilities.
