MARGAO: Despite complaints of severe irritation and skin rash caused to people while using the colours during Holi, the authorities seem to have failed in their duties to ensure the sale of safe and quality colours during the festival in Margao.
In the past, there have been numerous complaints of people developing rash and skin diseases after applying the colours during the festival which indicates the sale of toxic colours.
However, inquiries with the Food and Drug Administration revealed that they have failed to check and have not issued any advisory regarding the sale of colours and have ruled out that the quality check and sale of colours do not come in its ambit.
Dr Martinha Fernandes, Health Officer at Margao Urban Health Office admitted to not having conducted checks on the quality of colours and added that they have not received any complaint of irritation and skin diseases caused by the colours.
Significantly, the Urban Health Centre was closed as government had declared a holiday on Holi and people who suffer irritation caused due to the use of Holi colours generally visit the nearest private practitioners.
