MAPUSA: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai along with Water and Resource Minister Vinod Palyekar inspected the Chapora Fort on Friday and directed the PWD to complete the road work soon.
After listening to the demands of locals and PWD officials, Sardesai directed the contractor to start the construction work of the road leading to fort immediately.
When informed about the stay order by NGT to carry out the beatification work, Sardessai said that he will look into the matter and would avail all required permissions to carry out remaining work.
He said as per the demands of the people, the concrete road will be built till the bottom of the fort and thereafter laterite stone steps will be made to reach the fort.
Sardessai also said being the Archeology Minister, he would see that all the historical forts in Goa were restored. If the Chapora Fort is restored and maintained than commercial activities too can be initiated, he said, adding that similar to foreign countries, entry fees would be charged and history of the forts would be provided to people.
