Fernandes has alleged that the case is a consequence of his efforts to expose and raise concerns regarding alleged illegal construction activities in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) area of Morjim.

According to sources, the activist approached the court seeking anticipatory bail after the registration of the case. After hearing the matter, the Sessions Court granted him interim protection from arrest.

Fernandes maintains that the allegations against him are unfounded and has claimed that the case is linked to his whistleblowing activities concerning purported violations in the ecologically sensitive coastal belt of Morjim.

The matter is expected to come up for further hearing before the court on June 4, when additional arguments from both sides are likely to be considered.
