In a swift and well-coordinated operation, the Konkan Railway Police in Goa apprehended a murder accused wanted by Karnataka Police within hours of receiving intelligence about his movement.
According to police, authorities in Karnataka alerted the Konkan Railway Police on Tuesday evening that a suspect wanted in connection with a murder case registered at Panampur Police Station in Mangaluru was likely travelling to Goa aboard the Hazrat Nizamuddin Express.
Acting promptly on the information, a police team led by PSI Jitendra Gaude, along with personnel Vasim Shaikh, Manjunath Dodamani and Sanjay Gaonkar, was deployed at Margao Railway Station to intercept the suspect.
Using CCTV surveillance, technical analysis and intelligence inputs, the team successfully tracked and detained the individual upon his arrival.
During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Prashant Kumar Bhandari (36), a resident of Darbhanga in Bihar.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of PI Vikram Naik and DySP Hiru Kavlekar, with overall guidance from SP Shekhar Prabhudessai of the Konkan Railway Police.
Following the arrest, the investigating officer from Panampur Police Station in Mangaluru was informed, and further legal formalities are currently underway. The accused remains in the custody of the Konkan Railway Police Station in Goa pending his handover to the Karnataka authorities.
