The Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department has notified proposals to designate more than one crore square metres of land across Goa as No-Development Zones (NDZ). According to the official gazette notification, the identified areas include large parcels in Gancim, Carambolim, Calapur and Batim in Tiswadi taluka, along with Benaulim and Cavelossim in Salcete.The proposed zones comprise ecologically sensitive landscapes such as khazan lands, mangroves, paddy fields, salt pans, orchards, fish farms, rivers, nallas, water bodies and sand dunes. The TCP Board has recommended that these parcels be classified as Non-Developable Areas while excluding existing residential settlements and inhabited zones.Officials state that the move aims to safeguard environmentally significant regions from future construction and development pressures. Members of the public have been given a 30-day window to submit suggestions, comments or objections regarding the proposal before the matter is considered for further decision-making by the authorities.
