Goa is set to usher in a new era of traffic enforcement as the Directorate of Transport prepares to roll out electronic monitoring through Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras from July 1, 2026. The system will be operational at 26 locations across North and South Goa and will automatically detect a range of traffic violations.
Authorities said offences such as using mobile phones while driving, jumping traffic signals, overspeeding, driving without helmets or seat belts, dangerous driving, wrong-side driving, illegal parking and carrying excess pillion riders will be identified through cameras and penalised electronically.

Under the new system, motorists caught using mobile phones while driving can face a fine of ₹1,000 for the first offence and up to ₹10,000 for repeated violations. Similar penalties apply to dangerous driving offences.
The ITMS network will cover major junctions in Panaji, Margao, Vasco, Verna, Nuvem, Benaulim, Colva, Mapusa and Curchorem, among other locations. Officials believe the move will improve road safety, reduce violations and encourage responsible driving behaviour across the state.
