Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the Goa government has not availed any fresh loans between April and July of the current financial year, while repaying nearly ₹600 crore of debt borrowed around a decade ago.
Highlighting the state’s financial position, the Chief Minister said the decision reflects the government’s prudent fiscal management. He noted that although Goa is eligible to borrow up to ₹4,000 crore under the prescribed limits, the government has deliberately chosen not to raise any fresh loans during the period.

Sawant said the repayment of old debt demonstrates the state’s commitment to maintaining financial discipline while ensuring that development works and welfare initiatives continue without placing additional borrowing burdens on the exchequer.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government’s focus remains on responsible financial management and sustainable economic growth.
