A 22-year-old fourth-year law student died on Tuesday evening after battling for her life for more than 48 hours following a brutal stabbing allegedly carried out by the brother of a man whose marriage proposal she had rejected. The incident occurred on July 13 in Bengaluru’s Kodihalli area on HAL Road, prompting police to arrest two brothers in connection with the case.
The victim, identified as Amrutha, was attacked around 4.30 pm on Sunday and was immediately rushed to hospital, where doctors fought to save her. Despite intensive treatment, she succumbed to her injuries on July 15.

According to the preliminary investigation, Amrutha, Dhanush G and his younger brother Surya G were residents of the same locality. Their families had become acquainted through religious gatherings, and over time, Amrutha and Dhanush developed a close friendship that later turned into a romantic relationship.
Police said the relationship ended after Amrutha allegedly discovered that Dhanush had concealed important details about his past, including that he had previously been married, was divorced and had a child. Feeling deceived, she ended the relationship and distanced herself from him.
Investigators said Surya was angered by her decision and had allegedly threatened her, saying he would not forgive her for rejecting his brother. On July 13, an argument reportedly broke out at Amrutha’s residence. During the confrontation, Surya allegedly attacked her with a knife, stabbing her multiple times in the chest and back before attempting to flee.
Local residents managed to apprehend the accused and handed him over to the police. Based on the complaint, the JB Nagar police registered a case against both Dhanush and Surya, who were later arrested.
Following Amrutha’s death, police converted the case to murder and added the relevant charges. Investigators are continuing to question the two accused as they probe the circumstances leading to the fatal attack.
