Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has expressed concern over the large number of vehicles plying on Goa’s roads without valid insurance, warning that it could have serious consequences in the event of an accident.
Describing the situation as “shocking,” Godinho said uninsured vehicles pose a major risk to motorists and victims involved in road accidents, as insurance coverage is crucial for compensation and financial protection.

The minister announced that the Transport Department will provide vehicle owners with a one-month grace period to regularise their insurance documents. During this period, authorities will not impose fines for the absence of valid insurance.
However, Godinho clarified that traffic enforcement will continue, and motorists found violating other provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act will still face penalties.
“We are giving one month’s time to rectify the issue. During this period, we will not fine motorists for insurance violations, but action will continue against other traffic offences,” the minister said.
The Transport Department has urged vehicle owners to use the grace period to renew or obtain valid insurance and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.
