Quelossim Panchayat Thanks MLA Anton Vaz After Court Stays Controversial Movaj Enterprise Project

Members of the Quelossim Village Panchayat have thanked Cortalim MLA Anton Vaz for his support in securing a court stay on the proposed M/s Movaj Enterprise project, describing the order as a significant step in the village’s long-standing opposition to the development.

The seven-member panchayat expressed gratitude to the MLA for extending legal and moral support during the proceedings. Former Sarpanch Swoosie De Souza also thanked the legal team and villagers who attended the court hearing in solidarity, saying the stay order was an important milestone in the struggle to protect the village.

Expressing confidence that justice would prevail, De Souza urged residents to remain united and patient as the legal process continues.

Panch Lopinho Xavier said the village has been opposing the project since 2012 and described the court stay as temporary relief achieved through the Special Gram Sabha and sustained public support.

He appealed to MLA Anton Vaz to ensure that the proposed project is permanently scrapped before the upcoming Assembly elections. Xavier alleged that the project poses a threat to the village’s khazan lands, mangroves, ecologically sensitive areas and the designated no-development zone.

The panchayat reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Quelossim’s fragile ecosystem and said it would continue pursuing legal and democratic means to oppose the project.
