A man was killed and three Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel were injured during a firing incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district late on Thursday night after the suspect allegedly attempted to snatch a service rifle from security personnel, officials said.
According to police, the incident took place on the Jaie-Gandoh Road when an SOG team laid an ambush following reports of suspicious movement in the area. Around 11.30 pm, the team intercepted a man who allegedly attacked security personnel and tried to seize a service weapon.

During the ensuing scuffle, one of the SOG personnel opened fire, injuring the suspect. Three SOG jawans also sustained injuries in the confrontation.
All four were initially taken to the Sub-District Hospital in Bhaderwah before being referred to the Government Medical College in Doda for specialised treatment. The injured man, identified as 30-year-old Aarif Hussain, a resident of Cheeka village, later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have also detained a religious preacher for questioning in connection with the incident. However, officials said no direct link between the preacher and the firing has been established so far, and investigations are continuing.
Following the incident, additional police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been deployed in Bhaderwah as a precautionary measure. The Army has also launched a search operation in the Jaie area to determine whether any other suspects or militants were present.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the confrontation and are examining all possible angles.
