Nearly 75% of candidates who registered for the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission’s (JSSC) Field Worker Recruitment Examination failed to appear for the test, with many blaming the allocation of distant examination centres and delays in receiving admit card notifications via email.
The examination, held on July 19, was conducted to fill 510 Field Worker posts advertised by the JSSC in 2024. Although 3,22,867 candidates had registered for the recruitment drive, only 86,444 appeared for the examination, resulting in an attendance rate of about 26%.

Candidates alleged that they received emails regarding their admit cards only a short time before the examination, leaving them with little opportunity to make travel arrangements. Others claimed they were assigned examination centres located hundreds of kilometres from their homes, making it difficult to reach the venues on time.
The recruitment process itself had already been delayed, with the examination taking place nearly two years after the vacancies were first notified. The prolonged wait, coupled with logistical concerns, sparked criticism from several applicants, many of whom took to social media to highlight the difficulties they faced.
The Field Worker recruitment is aimed at filling vacancies in government departments across Jharkhand. Aspirants argued that better planning in the allocation of examination centres and earlier communication regarding admit cards could have significantly improved attendance.
The unusually low turnout has raised concerns over the conduct of the examination and whether eligible candidates were denied a fair opportunity to compete because of administrative shortcomings. The JSSC is yet to issue a detailed response to the complaints raised by candidates.
