The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has confirmed that Brazil will take on India in an international friendly at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 3, marking the first-ever match by the Selecao’s senior men’s team on Indian soil.
The announcement ends days of speculation surrounding Brazil’s proposed visit to India. Earlier reports had indicated that discussions were underway between the CBF and Indian football authorities, with talks gathering pace during the FIFA World Cup 2026.

In a statement, the CBF described the match as a historic occasion, noting that India is home to one of Brazil’s largest international fan bases. “The National Team will take the field for the first time on Indian soil. We are eager to live this moment alongside millions of Indian fans. See you in Kolkata,” the federation said.
Brazil will arrive in India after completing two previously scheduled friendlies against Australia in Townsville on September 25 and Brisbane on September 29.
Kolkata’s passion for Brazilian football is well documented. The city has long embraced the Selecao, with neighbourhoods often decorated in Brazil’s colours during FIFA World Cups. The bond dates back to 1977, when football legend Pelé visited Kolkata with New York Cosmos to play Mohun Bagan in one of Indian football’s most iconic matches.
