Farmers and residents in Pernem have urged the government and Forest Department to take urgent and permanent measures to address repeated damage allegedly caused by a wild elephant locally known as ‘Omkar’.
A delegation led by Vilas Tamboskar submitted a memorandum to the authorities, highlighting damage to banana, coconut and areca nut plantations and expressing concern over the elephant’s recurring presence in the area.

The delegation said the repeated incidents have caused concern among farmers and residents and urged the authorities to take effective steps to protect agricultural plantations, homes and other properties from further damage.
The delegation appealed to the government and Forest Department to implement permanent measures to address the issue and ensure the safety and security of residents and their livelihoods.
Farmers have also sought timely intervention to prevent further losses and minimise the impact of the elephant’s continued movement through the area.
