Pakistan cricket finds itself embroiled in a fresh controversy as national team players Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq face formal interrogation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The probe centers on alleged dressing-room information leaks that occurred during Pakistan’s ongoing tour of England.
According to media reports, the NCCIA has summoned Rizwan, Imam, and a third unnamed cricketer to appear at its offices. As part of the proceedings, investigators have instructed the players to unlock their personal mobile phones. This step follows an internal sweep by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had previously taken physical custody of several players’ devices during the tour.

Squad Shake-Up and Disciplinary Action
The cyber agency’s intervention follows significant administrative shake-ups within the national squad. Both Imam and Rizwan were among seven players released from the touring team and sent home following Pakistan’s series-clinching defeat to England at Lord’s. The other released players include Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Owais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad.
In addition to squad adjustments, the PCB relieved head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul of their duties. To fill the vacancies, selection officials called up seven replacements, including five uncapped players—Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Imran Jnr, Saad Baig, Mohammad Imran Randhawa, and Razaullah—alongside Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal.
Controversies Surrounding Player Conduct
The decision to release the senior players was preceded by rising scrutiny surrounding their on- and off-field conduct during the tour:
- Imam-ul-Haq: The opening batsman missed both innings of the Lord’s Test due to what was officially cited as a low-grade calf strain. However, observations of Imam taking throwdowns in the nets with a taped calf on day four raised internal questions regarding the actual severity of his injury.
- Mohammad Rizwan: The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman faced criticism from team management and commentators regarding unprofessional conduct and a perceived lack of team discipline.
