A Russian diplomat’s attempt to connect with an Indian audience in Hindi has won praise online, with his remarks about the future of BRICS drawing attention on social media.
Petr Sizov, Press Secretary at the Russian Embassy in India, spoke in Hindi during the BRICS Dialogues, sharing his hopes for the grouping and its future. His use of Hindi during the event quickly caught the attention of viewers, particularly as India hosts the BRICS summit.

“BRICS has more than 11 nations… main umeed karta hun… I hope this will be the most powerful community,” Sizov said during the event.
The remarks came on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met ahead of the BRICS summit, with their meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding India-Russia partnership.
Sizov’s Hindi comments were widely appreciated online, with many users highlighting the diplomat’s effort to speak in an Indian language while discussing an important international grouping. His message also reflected Russia’s emphasis on closer ties with India at a time when BRICS continues to expand its membership and influence.
The Modi-Putin meeting featured discussions on several areas of bilateral cooperation, including energy, defence, trade and technology. Both sides discussed efforts to maintain stable energy supplies and work towards an ambitious bilateral trade target of $100 billion by 2030.
Defence cooperation also remained an important part of the discussions. Existing collaboration involving systems such as the S-400 and BrahMos was reviewed, alongside broader possibilities for cooperation in areas including nuclear energy, pharmaceuticals and rare earths.
The two leaders also discussed major geopolitical developments, including the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Security concerns in the Black Sea region, which have implications for maritime trade, were also part of the broader discussions.
