A joint operation by the Telangana Counter Intelligence, Hyderabad Task Force and Malkajgiri Police has solved the theft of a cache of military-grade weapons and ammunition from the Madras Regiment armoury in Secunderabad.
The stolen firearms and ammunition were recovered following a 10-day investigation, bringing the case to a breakthrough.

The theft was reported on August 31 after a Lieutenant Colonel of the Madras Regiment approached Bollaram Police Station in Hyderabad’s Malkajgiri police zone. The officer reported that the locks of two armoury storage rooms, situated around 40 metres apart, had been broken.
A substantial quantity of firearms, ammunition and other military equipment was subsequently found missing from the armoury.
The stolen cache included four 7.62×39 mm AK-203 assault rifles, one 5.56 mm INSAS 1B1 rifle, six 9 mm Auto 1A pistols and one 6.35-bore civilian pistol.
The thieves had also taken 21 magazines, a passive night-vision binocular and more than 1,900 rounds of live ammunition.
The coordinated investigation by the three agencies led to the recovery of the entire stolen cache within 10 days. Further details regarding the suspects and circumstances surrounding the theft are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
