The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken serious cognizance of sanitation and drainage problems at the Central Jail in Colvale and directed authorities to take immediate corrective measures.
The Commission has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD), through the Sewerage & Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd., to urgently deputise a maintenance team to clear overflowing sewage chambers at the prison.

The GHRC has also directed that weekly follow-ups be carried out until the pending tenders for the required works are finalised.
The directions come amid concerns over the sanitation conditions at the jail, with the Commission emphasising the need for prompt action to address the drainage and sewage issues and ensure proper hygiene and living conditions for inmates.
Authorities have been directed to closely monitor the situation and ensure that the necessary maintenance work is undertaken without further delay.
