Cuncolim Union Beat United Boys of Ambaulim 8-7 on Penalties to Reach Curtorim Panchayat Cup Quarterfinals

Curtorim: Cuncolim Union edged past United Boys of Ambaulim 8-7 via a penalty shootout to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 34th Curtorim Panchayat Cup, organised by Curtorim Gymkhana at the St Alex Church Ground, Curtorim, on Thursday.

The match ended 2-2 after regulation time, forcing the teams into a tiebreaker to decide the winner.

Cuncolim Union took the lead when Cyril Dias found the net from inside the box following an assist from Alex Fernandes. United Boys of Ambaulim responded when Tushar Gaonkar set up an unmarked Viraj Velip, who calmly finished to level the score.

As the match progressed, Cuncolim Union regained the advantage through Viraj Velip, who scored from a free kick. However, Ambaulim refused to give up and found a late equaliser through Royal Oliver in the dying minutes of the match.

With both sides locked at 2-2, the game was decided by a penalty shootout. Cuncolim Union held their nerve from the spot, emerging 8-7 winners and advancing to the last eight.

Viraj Velip of Cuncolim Union was named Player of the Match, with the award presented by Mathew Hillario.
