Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially announced a brand-new movie centered on the life and legacy of Rameshwar Nath Kao (RN Kao), the visionary founder of India’s external intelligence agency, R&AW. The announcement was made on the 58th foundation day of R&AW.
The upcoming biographical film will be an adaptation of the book Gentleman Spymaster authored by Nitin Gokhale. According to the details shared, the narrative will chronicle the historical journey spanning from 1955 to 1971, establishing the critical need for an independent intelligence agency like R&AW. It will also focus on its subsequent formation and its historic first mission during the 1971 war against Pakistan. RN Kao is widely remembered as a legendary figure in the world of spycraft who successfully placed Indian espionage on the global map.

In a formal statement, Johar added that Leo Media Collective has spent the past two years meticulously researching and dramatizing the narrative. The team aims to deliver a gripping, fact-based story that pays proper homage to R&AW and honors its major milestone year with a solid motion picture.
This project marks another collaborative venture between Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective, following their previous joint efforts on films like Bad Newz and Kesari: Chapter 2. At present, the film is still in its early development stage, and details regarding the director and cast are being kept tightly under wraps. Fans and moviegoers can expect the film to hit the big screens on August 11, 2028.
