24 firms likely to bid for 4 mining blocks at e-auction

Last date for purchase of tender document is Nov 15; interested bidders can apply by Nov 21

PANJIM: Twenty-four mining companies have shown interest in bidding for four mining blocks- three in Bicholim and one in Sanguem, having approximately 135 million tonnes of iron ore resource, for e-auction. 

The last date for purchase of tender document is November 15 while the interested bidders can apply by November 21.

Director of Mines S Shanbhogue informed that 24 mining companies participated in the pre-bid conference.

The conference held by the Metal Scrap Trading Corporation (MSTC) on behalf of the Directorate of Mines and Geology. “These are the companies which have already purchased tender documents and are likely to bid during the e-auction,” sources said. 

DMG through MSTC has invited tender to e-auction four mining blocks- Mulgao, Sirigao-Mayem and Monte-de-Sirigao all in Bicholim taluka and Kalay mine in Sanguem.  These mines were previously operated by mining firms like M/s Narvekar, M/s Rajaram Bandekar, M/s Chowgule & Co Pvt Ltd and Sesa Mining Corporation. 

As per the tender document, the names of successful bidders would be declared between December 13 and December 21. Following which, the first installment of the bid price will have to be paid to the government within 15 days after which the Letter of Intent will be issued.

“This letter of intent is valid for a period of 3 (three) years from the date of its issuance, within which time all the conditions must be fulfilled and the Mining Lease deed must be executed between the bidder and the Government of Goa,” DMG said. 

The successful bidder will have to obtain all the requisite permissions including environment clearance and consent to operate.
