PANJIM: After blaming BJP and Congress for the mining crisis in Goa, the mining stakeholders on Tuesday also blamed Aam Admi Party, claiming the facts presented by an AAP leader before the apex court are false.
According to the Goa Mining Peoples Front, Goa Foundation counsel and AAP leader Prashant Bhushan projected wrong facts before the Supreme Court about the mining industry. He argued that only 7,000 people are affected by mining closure, while in fact over one lakh people are suffering.
Goa Foundation petitioned the Supreme Court against illegal mining in Goa. Supreme Court in October 2012 suspended all mining activities based on Justice M B Shah Commission inquiry report.
GMPF told media that none of the political parties including Congress and BJP are willing to solve the impasse created due to mining closure since October 2012. “Both State and Central government has failed to make a strong case before the Supreme Court for immediate relief. Government has been adopting indifferent and careless attitude. Goa government should have been pro-active in court, rather having defensive strategy,” he said.
GMPF has decided to hold a day long padayatra at Bicholim starting from Usgao, on February 28. The padayatra will culminate in a public meeting. GMPF has also decided to hold a similar padayatra in South Goa shortly.
