MARGAO: Margao has reported nearly 10 deaths due to COVID in just six days but people, reluctant to the situation, are found blatantly violating the COVID protocols.
Like in other parts of the State, Salcete Taluka has become more vulnerable to the rapid spread of the virus, taking the mortality rate to a higher level.

Out of the 10 deaths, four were reported in South Goa District Hospital and six in Goa Medical College and Hospital. Presently, there are 2,355 COVID positive active cases in Margao itself. Another three are recorded in the town.
Navelim recorded nine deaths in six days, wherein seven COVID patients from Fatorda died at SGDH and GMC. Three deaths each have been reported in Benaulim and Chinchinim village, whereas four from Cuncolim, have lost their life fighting the virus. One death each has reported from Colva, Chandor, Assolna, Betalbhatim, Raia, and Majorda.
Out of the above deaths, nearly 50 males and 33 females have lost their lives in these six days and there are instances wherein Navelim has reported two deaths on a single day (May 2). Besides, in Fatorda two lost their lives on May 3.
A total of 81 deaths were reported in SGDH between May 1 and 6 while three were reported at the ESI Hospital and one at Hospicio Hospital. Out of the 81 deaths at SGDH, 12 were reported on May 1 and on 17 deaths on May 2.
Fourteen lost their lives on May 3, while 20 deaths were reported on May 4 and 5, and nearly 18 deaths have been reported on May 6, at SGDH.
Despite the high ratio of deaths in Margao and surrounding areas, people continue to violate the COVID protocols. There are instances where people were seen rushing to buy fish . Several citizens were also seen roaming in the town during late evenings.
Speaking to Herald, Prashant Naik, a citizen of Margao said despite the horrifying situation in Margao, it is noticed that people are more concerned about buying eatables rather than taking precautions. Still few are unaware of the sufferings of the COVID-19 virus.
