The members of Vinayak Kala Sangh, who have been celebrating the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav at the garden since 30 years, have installed a Ganesh idol on an artificial seesaw inside the traditional pandal.
Vinayak Kala Sangh Jayant Jadhav president said “The decision to depict neglected garden and portraying the same as Lord Ganesha play area was to focus on the garden’s dilapidated condition which today has been posing as the safe haven for anti-social elements.”
“Earlier, the garden was used by large number of locals, especially children. However due to constant neglect, people stopped using the garden and was used only during the Chaturthi celebration. We have been using the garden after holding a massive cleanliness drive. We tried our level best to highlight the condition. Two years ago, we had also submitted a memorandum to the concerned MMC officials demanding development/ beautification of the garden. Since no one came forward to develop the garden, this year, we decided to highlight the issue by depicting the dilapidated scene of garden during Chaturthi celebration and the results were positive,” Jadhav informed.
Interestingly, the creative theme has opened the eyes of municipal authorities as sources in the Mormugao Municipal Council informed that the MMC chairperson Deepak Naik recently visited the Sarvajanik Ganesh Pandal at Baina garden and assured the members of Vinayak Kala Sangh that he would soon take up development and beautification of Baina garden by giving topmost priority to the issue raised by the Sangh.
