Come March 1, and passengers on the Mumbai-Margao route can hope to travel by a Kadamba Corporation Transport’s Mercedes Benz coach at affordable rates.
That’s not all. The KTC will launch its e-ticketing project on the same day, besides its own website dishing out information on its services. Two state-of-the-art Volvo buses costing Rs 1.50 crore will also be introduced on the same day between Goa and the pilgrim centre of Shirdi.
If KTC Managing Director, Venancio Furtado is to be believed, the Corporation has plans to put in operation six shuttle buses on the Goa-Belgaum route with just one stop at Ramnagar. Also in the pipeline are direct buses from the State’s countryside ferrying patients and their relatives to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Furtado informed that the Mercedes Benz bus will be run on the Mumbai-Margao route on a trial basis sans any extra expenditure. “The company has placed the bus at the disposal of the KTC for trial runs on the Mumbai-Goa sector. The bus will leave Margao at 6.30 pm from March 1. Passengers can look forward for an introductory of Rs 500 per seat for a period of one month”, he said, adding that if the response of the passengers turns out positive, the Corporation will go in for these Mercedes buses in the future on select inter-state routes”.
Saying the KTC is committed to improve its services to the satisfaction of the traveling public, Furtado said that launching e-ticketing and the website are part of the plans in this direction. “Initially, the website will provide information on the services between Goa and Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore and Shirdi. Slowly and steadily, information on other routes will be covered by the website”, he added.
He said plans to introduce shuttle buses on the Goa-Belgaum route is again part of efforts to streamline the services on this sector and cash in on the increasing demand from traveling commuters and tourists alike.
Besides, he said that the KTC has received six more blue coloured buses which will be deployed between the Capital city to various destinations.
Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat will launch the services at the KTC Margao depot on March 1, at 9.30 am.
