The Public Works Department (PWD) of Goa has widened and repaired the road leading to Siridao village via Grand Hyatt hotel in Bambolim, while other roads under the same tender await a similar stroke of luck.
While the completion of the road in record quick time, after a horrific experience with the Dona Paula Miramar road, activists have cried foul over special treatment to a VIP road leading up to Goa’s largest seven start hotel.
PWD officials informed that this Bambolim to Siridao village road has not been repaired since last 15 years. Executive Engineer of Division II (Roads) Sunil Raikar has said that the stretch of 1.5kms from MDR Bambolim to Grand Hyatt hotel has been repaired and widened wherever possible. He said that 20% of the work which is left will be done in a day’s time if the rain stops.
It is learnt that hotel management has given 2-3 metres of land on each side of the road till one km. The work of the said road from Bambolim to Siridao village was tendered for the cost of Rs 4 crore.
“We have carried out the work of said stretch following the direction from higher authorities,” EE Raikar said.
Principal Chief Engineer of PWD Uttam Parsekar informed Herald that the road work has been taken on priority in view of the BRICS summit which is scheduled in Goa on October 15 and 16. However, the summit is going to be held in South Goa.
Social activist Arturo D’Souza from St Cruz has pointed out that many of the village roads are still in the bad shape in St Cruz, Bambolim and Taleigao. He said that road of Bambolim to Siridao village was not repaired by the authorities for last 20 years.
Another local Naresh S mentioned that locals from Bambolim villagers were demanding for the roads to be repaired at various places but were neglected by every government for over decade.
The quick completion of t his project has put the PWD under close watch. Now demands to deliver the same promptness in the repair of aam (common) roads crying for attention will only increase.
