CURCHOREM: Protesting against the government’s Medium of Instruction (MoI) policy, members of the ‘Goa Rakhan Manch’ (GRM) burnt copies of the government notification near the Ravindra Bhavan hall, Curchorem on Saturday evening.
Speaking after burning a copy of the notification, GRM member Sohan Sanvordekar claimed that the earlier Congress government had given grants to English medium primary schools and that policy had been opposed by then opposition leader and present Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“But after coming into power, Parrikar has made a U-turn and has supported the same policy of the previous government by giving grants to English medium primary schools,” said Sanvordekar.
“After issuing a notification by the earlier government to give grants to English medium primary schools, an agitation was started from Curchorem and spread all over Goa. This time too, the agitation started from Curchorem and in the same way, it will spread all over the State,” warned Sanvordekar.
GRM Convenor Yugank Naik, GRM Secretary Surel Naik, Konkani Bhasha Mandal President Chetan Acharya and Secretary Anavesha Singhbal were also present during the protest.
