Land grabbing case: SIT to file status report of probe against Mandrem MLA

PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will on Thursday, file the status report of the investigations against Mandrem MLA  Jit Arolkar in the alleged land grabbing case, in the High Court at Bombay at Goa.  

During the last hearing, the Court had asked the SIT to file the status report of the probe against Arolkar in the land grabbing case at Mandrem. Arolkar has filed a criminal writ petition before the High Court praying to quash the FIR registered against him by the police.

Acting on a complaint filed by Rawloo Khalap, a native of Mapusa and currently residing in USA, the Pernem Police had registered FIR against Arolkar for fraudulently executing sale deeds of the plots in Pernem using his power of attorney. The case was later transferred to the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) and to the SIT on land grabbing, last year  

Additional Public Prosecutor Pravin Faldesai told the Court that the necessary report will be filed in the registry of the Court in a sealed envelope by Thursday.

The Court later posted the matter for further consideration on February 27.

Social activists Adv Aires Rodrigues had filed a complaint before the SIT against the Mandrem MLA on alleged illegal grabbing and fraudulent sale of property admeasuring 1.48 lakh square metres at Dhargal, Pernem, of which Rawloo Khalap is the co-owner.
