PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has recommended the Director General of Police to impose appropriate penalty on the Bicholim based M/s Amonkar Classic Caterers for supplying unhygienic food to the police personnel on duty during the 2016 BRICS Summit.
Commission member A D Salkar has further asked the DGP to not overburden the police personnel on duty at pre-planned events while also ensuring that the men-in-khaki are given enough time to take rest.
“The DGP shall impose appropriate penalty to the Contractor/Caterer (M/s Amonkar Classic Caterers, Bicholim-Goa) for providing unhygienic food to the police personnel on duty during 2016 BRICS Summit. The DGP shall ensure that the police personnel deployed for any pre-planned event are not overburdened and sufficient time is given to them after performance of strainful duty to avoid any health problem of the police personnel posted for hard and strenuous duty,” reads the 7-page order issued by the Commission on Tuesday.
The Government has been further directed to strictly follow the circular issued on July 31, last year on welfare measures for the police personnel and to also strictly comply with the suggestions made by the Chief Secretary on the issue which was submitted to the High Court last year.
During the hearing of the matter, the Police Department, in its reply to the Commission, had stated that the caterer was explained the terms and conditions such as cooking of food in hygienic condition, that caterer should not sublet the contract to another caterer, food supplied shall be of good quality with focus on hygiene too, and that the department will impose penalty if there is any dispute about the food quality.
