SALIGAO: Saligao sarpanch Lafira Gomes was voted out of office on Tuesday in a no-confidence motion passed by five members in the nine-member panchayat. The sarpanch had tendered her resignation the previous day citing personal reasons.
The five panch members who voted in favour of the motion were deputy sarpanch Pandurang Harmalkar and panchas Kalpana Oraskar, Shradha Borkar, Deepak Rane and Dayanand Mandrekar. Four other members did not attend and hence the motion was passed with a five-vote margin.
They had proposed to move the motion because they alleged that the sarpanch was not taking them into confidence with regards to development by encouraging illegal constructions and for misusing her power as sarpanch.
“I wish to resign from the post of the Sarpanch of Saligao due to my personal reason,” stated Lafira in her resignation letter dated April 29 addressed to the Director of Panchayats.
Deputy Sarpanch Pandurang Harmalkar will hold temporary charge as the sarpanch for 60 days till the directorate of panchayats fixes the date for the election of new sarpanch.
Speaking to media persons, Pandurang said that he would continue with the developmental projects in the village.
