Recently on August 2, 2016, I had approached a government servant in the Civil Registrar department to obtain a birth certificate of my brother. I showed him a Xerox of the certificate which was issued earlier on February 8, 2011. When he told me to notorise the Xerox I immediately did it. He then told me to go to the Xerox shop opposite the department to fill up the application format. I filled and requested him to give it to me at the earliest.
When he called me the next day to collect the certificate, as I was in a hurry, I did not notice the mistakes on the certificate. When I noticed the mistakes in the evening, I bought it to the notice of the concerned government servant the next day. He was upset on seeing it. He manually changed the alphabet D to P i.e. Delicia to Pelicia. I replied saying that it was his mistake but he denied saying that in 2011 he was not the one to do so. He told me to re-apply for the certificate. He only told me to take the defected certificate and that I could still use it for any formality. After finishing the re-application formalities, he told me to come on Tuesday to collect the same. Assuming that the certificate might be ready by Monday, when I went to collect it, the concerned person told me as he was on leave last Friday, he could not keep the certificate ready and called me to collect it on Tuesday.
When I went to collect it on Tuesday, I again noticed another error in the word ‘Tiswadi’. When I showed him, he quickly corrected the word ‘I’. God have mercy to bear the unwarranted trouble from this well paid public servants. In the end, we suffer for their mistakes, making affidavits, waste of money, time, etc. I more so pity the elderly citizens who have to run about from pillar to post to procure their certificates due to such non-co-operative government staff.
