The three NCP legislators appeared before the Speaker of the Goa legislative Assembly Pratapsingh Rane on Monday for hearing over the issue of appointment of the leader of the NCP legislature wing as also the chief whip of the party in Goa.
The Speaker had asked the three NCP MLAs to remain present for hearing today in response to the letter written by NCP High Command informing him that their Benaulim MLA is the new NCP legislature leader and also the chief whip of the party.
Earlier, Revenue Minister and Vasco MLA Jose Philip D’Souza was the legislature leader while Tourism Minister and Tivim MLA, Nilkant Halarnkar was the whip.
It is learnt during the hearing Speaker showed the three NCP MLAs the letter he had received from their high command and asked them for their “say.”
The MLAs have been asked to submit their “say” by answering a questionnaire along with documents, to the Speaker’s office by 11 am on Tuesday.
The Speaker is likely to decide on the issue by Tuesday afternoon. The Speaker has sought information from the three MLAs about whether they were appointed or elected to their party positions supported by documents. Also, he sought to know the provisions in their party’s Constitution regarding their positions.
The legislators have also been asked to submit copies of court judgements settling disputes related to the appointments of such party positions.
